Each week Niki’s Notes, a part of A Better Paradigm, highlights the people and organizations pioneering business-model transformations to improve workplace culture. With a focus on news, resources, and stats, we’re helping fuel the shift from traditional definitions of success that focus on 1 bottom line to those that incorporate valuing people and profits.

Help improve the value of Niki’s Notes by taking a short—less than 5 minutes—survey. For each survey completed by May 30, 2025, I’ll contribute $5 to Feeding America as a thank you.

🦋 Content Shares to Inspire Workplace Culture Shifts

  • 🖋️Noteworthy: I recently met with Ann Ranson who was kind enough to share her Civility Assessment, which lists key aspects of civility and enables you to record how you/your organization are aligning to them. A Civility Pledge precedes the assessment. Please see the info on the link to reach Ann Ranson for permission to use this in your organization—as she notes, she happily grants permission as long as the requester doesn’t monetize her work.
  • There’s soooo much info out there about de-stressing. I’m sharing this list of 22 tips because they are quite good and easily actionable. And on that note, I’m going to do #20 right now.
  • 💖 Do you have a workplace kindness story to share? You know, a story where you or a coworker went out of their way to make things a little nicer, a little easier, a little better? Tell me about it and I’ll share with my readers. If you want to share it confidentially, just let me know and I’ll pass the story along without disclosing the identifying details.
  • 🌟 Do Good Spotlight: Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT): TAT was started in 2009 to educate truckers on how to be crucial allies against human trafficking. Now, the program has extended into the transportation industry with programs that include innovative training, partnerships with law enforcement, and advocacy efforts. Learn more about Truckers Against Trafficking and watch their latest corporate video.
  • 🎉 Just for fun: Do you procrastinate? Want to see what others procrastinate about? Here’s a Google Trends Map revealing which of the top 3 procrastination search topics dominates in each state….
  • Rogue waves are becoming more common, here’s more. What does this have to do with workplace culture? Nothing unless you’re working on an oil platform, but it was too wild not to share.

Until Next Time…

Thought fuel: Do you typically approach business conversations as information exchanges or as opportunities to persuade someone to change their mind? Does your approach get you the outcomes you want?

For what it’s worth, I always approach them as info exchanges, even when I have a desired outcome in mind. It helps ensure I’m truly listening to the other person and the outcome is as win/win as possible.

Have a great rest of the week,

Niki
