  • Is it too good to be true? I hope not, this would be a game changer for all of us who are at our desks a good portion of the day: lose weight by lifting up your heel and putting it back down—a bunch of times. You can do it while doing anything at your desk. Give it a try if you want to lose weight or just burn some calories.
  • Would you rather be bored or get an electric shock? If you chose to get the electric shock, you’re not alone—not by a long shot. Here’s more in this on Instagram from The Washington Post.
  • The UK trial of 70 companies testing out a four-day work week is at the halfway point. Here’s what they’re sharing.

Launching a new product or brand extension? You owe it to yourself to check out this innovative company—Quick Study—founded by two former Annex88 execs. They’ve developed a sprint-based strategy method that creates brand relevance at the speed of culture. The benefit? Brands alight in their marketplace and take off with their audiences. • That was my takeaway after reading Vanity Fair’s interview with Olivia Wilde. But it wasn’t just her film accomplishments that wowed me. While those are plentiful, especially in light of her day-to-day challenges, it was her responses to questions about sticky situations with other people that blew me away. I marveled at her eloquence and how adroitly she drove the high road. Okay, it was a slightly bumpy high road when she talked about her soon-to-be ex, but she was way chill and admirable even there, all things considered. I loved her support of other professionals. Let me know if she wowed you as much as she did me.

  • In “How to Argue Well“, Pamela Paul draws in perspectives from experts to help you frame arguments to persuade, and offers advice for how to ID and manage those who would seek to bully instead of truly debate.
  • How does this, on manners in the world of work, from The Wall Street Journal strike you re: work or world problem? My POV: I would say I’ve seen manners eroding in society as a whole, but mostly when people are anonymous, e.g., in social media or on the highways. When it comes to interacting 1:1, the problems are less severe, people seem to relate to each other as they always did. Same at work. My team, our clients, our strategic partners—everything is polite and respectful; but when dealing with potential hires (for example, where the players don’t know each other) behaviors sometimes slip into less courteous ones, e.g., candidates ghosting interview appointments. Love to hear from you…
  • Companies seem to be getting on board to listing salaries in job postings—even when they’re not legally required to do so. That’s good news to law proponents who want to use salary transparency to create equitable pay across the board. Here’s more on the topic from Bloomberg.

Wow, I guess I was reading a lot this past week! Hope this was helpful. Have a great rest of the week and enjoy the weekend, too!
