We all get better as each of us gets better. And on that note, here are this week’s shares for activating your best self:

🦋 Curated Shares

  • Do you think crimes against women should provide the same protections as other terrorist acts? Laura Richards does, and so do I—here’s why. We’ve got to stop accepting certain behaviors as just how things are if we want to have a better world for all of us.
  • Is it better to reply “no” or “maybe” to an invitation? You may think “maybe” is the kinder response, but research says that’s a nope. More on that with this link to the full article in The Wall Street Journal.
  • Don’t say, “I can’t.” Instead, say, “I choose to” or “I choose not to.” Take a page from Julius Caesar a la Shakespeare, and let your words shape a better reality
  • Sleep research tends to focus on specific problems, such as sleep apnea’s link to cognitive decline, how insomnia affects the heart, or what is someone’s chronotype (e.g., night owl or an early bird). A new study by researchers at Concordia University in Montreal offers breakthrough help, identifying five sleep profiles with tips to help sufferers of each.
  • We’re some time away from a cure for chronic pain, but I found hope in this research from the University of Pennsylvania for those plagued by it, so sharing…

🥰 Kindness is Contagious, Pass It Along!

Some of the most beautiful acts of kindness are no cost, super simple, and quite lovely. This was submitted by Michelle P. in Farmington, CT to 1440: “’My husband and I attended a wedding celebration yesterday. My husband excused himself to go to the restroom, and all the other couples at the table got up to go to the dance floor. So, I was seated by myself. One of the bride’s good friends from high school (whom I’d) never met before, sat down, noting that I was by myself. She introduced herself and initiated pleasant small talk. We figured out how we shared common bonds with the wedding couple. It was such a lovely gesture. She stayed until my husband returned. She is the bride’s age, and I am the bride’s mother’s age.’”

🌟 Do Good Spotlight: Active Minds

“… We’re not just talking about mental health when there’s a crisis, we’re talking about mental health everyday,” Alison Malmon, Founder & Executive Director of Active Minds.

Originally named “Open Minds,” the organization was created to spread the word that seeking mental health help is a sign of strength, not shame. Now 20 years later, Active Minds has chapters on over 1,000 campuses and communities. Their goal is to support young adult mental health and create change for future generations: Active Minds.

Until Next Time…

I’m making a conscious effort to be more purposeful about achieving my goals. Time is racing by no matter what I do, so I’m choosing where to put my energy and focus.

How about you? Are you finding the strength to focus on what matters most to you?

Anything I can do to help?
